Galápagos Islands Expedition Cruise Guide 2026

Galápagos Islands Expedition Cruise Guide for 2026 A remote, breathtaking part of the globe that’s earned UNESCO World Heritage status, the Galápagos Islands are a dream destination with a host of spectacular wildlife and stunning landscapes. The archipelago is best experienced on a Galápagos expedition cruise, and whether you’re an avid nature lover, a passionate photographer, or simply seeking an extraordinary travel experience, it’s a truly unique part of the world that’s a must-visit for any intrepid explorer. So, what’s so special about the Galápagos Islands? Let’s find out more about this beautiful area of the world. Discover Galápagos Islands Expedition Cruises Where are the Galápagos Islands located? The Galápagos Islands are a stunning archipelago of volcanic islands situated in the Eastern Pacific near the equator, approximately 1,000 kilometres west off the coast of Ecuador in South America. The Galápagos province is part of Ecuador and consists of 18 main islands, as well as three smaller islands. What's so special about the Galápagos Islands? The islands are infamously known for being the foundation of which Charles Darwin developed his theory of evolution by natural selection, which continues to play a prominent role in modern-day science today. The Galápagos Islands are a proud UNESCO World Heritage site, home to a vast array of spectacular wildlife and biodiversity, including rare species w hich aren’t found anywhere else on Earth.     What wildlife can I see in the Galápagos Islands on an expedition cruise? The Islands are inhabited by a host of spectacular animals, most notably the Galápagos giant tortoises and marine iguanas, as well as flightless cormorants. There are truly endless opportunities for wildlife interactions wherever you are in the Galápagos; you’ll spot various animals and species without even having to look for it. The surrounding waters are teeming with marine life, from manta rays, hammerhead sharks to turtles and sea lions and an abundance of colourful fish. While on land, you can spot an impressive array of avian life here too, including penguins, blue-footed boobies and the iconic Darwin’s finches, the pivotal part of Darwin’s theory. What activities can you experience on an expedition cruise to the Galápagos Islands? An expedition cruise to the Galápagos Islands offers an array of exciting activities to help immerse you in this beautiful place. From wildlife spotting, snorkelling, hiking up volcanoes, walking on lava flows and visiting the Charles Darwin Research Station, there’s an abundance of fun excursions to enjoy whilst exploring the Islands. Read our blog for more inspiration on what you can get up to while on an expedition cruise around the Galápagos Islands. When is the best time to visit the Galápagos Islands on an expedition cruise? There is no 'bad' time to visit the Galápagos Islands. Having such close proximity to the equator means the weather is always warm, allowing you flexibility to choose the months that work for you, as well as your preferences for weather and wildlife. Despite the climate offering year-round seasonality, there are months and seasons that offer higher temperatures. If weather is a higher priority for you, then December through to May offers warmer days and calmer seas for a smoother sailing experience. While June through to November slightly cooler temperatures (but still comfortable and warm), this encourages a chance to see more active marine life. What cruise lines sail to the Galápagos Islands? You can embark on a Galápagos expedition cruise with a number of different cruise lines, catering to different budgets and needs. If you’re seeking an ultra-luxury experience where you can explore whilst immersed in comfort, Silversea offers phenomenal itineraries to the Galápagos Islands. Both HX Expeditions and Celebrity Cruises also offer incredible expedition sailings for those wanting to visit this beautiful place without the price of a luxury proposition. Which island in the Galápagos Islands is the best to visit? All islands across the Galápagos are a sight to be seen. Each one offers something different to the other, varying in wildlife, culture and landscapes. An expedition cruise will take you to a variety of different islands to immerse you in all that the Galápagos Islands have to offer. Santa Cruz Island: Santa Cruz Island is home to the bustling town of Puerto Ayora and the Charles Darwin Research Station, where you can learn about ongoing conservation efforts. Isabela Island: Isabela Island is the largest island in the Galápagos archipelago, known for its diverse wildlife, including giant tortoises, and stunning sites like the Sierra Negra Volcano. Fernandina Island: For those seeking beautiful beaches, untouched landscapes and abundant marine life, Fernadina Island is the perfect place.  San Cristóbal Island: The administrative capital, offering a mix of cultural experiences and natural beauty, including the iconic Kicker Rock. What landscapes can I see in the Galápagos Islands? The Galápagos Islands feature a variety of contrasting, breathtaking landscapes, including volcanic terrain, green highlands, pristine beaches and biodiverse ecosystems brimming with wildlife. The islands showcase towering volcanic peaks and lava fields, made up of dramatic cliffs, craters, calderas and lava tunnels. The beaches are truly extraordinary, characterised by soft white sands and crystal-clear blue waters making it easy to spot all kinds of wildlife. How do you get to the Galápagos Islands? Travelling to the Galapagos Islands is no easy feat, but the experience when you arrive is worth every moment you spent getting there. Situated just off the coast of Ecuador, the only way to visit the Galapagos Islands for your expedition cruise is by flying through the mainland country itself. Due to there being no direct flights from the UK, the easiest way to get there is flying into an American or European city, where you can board a connecting flight that takes you to Ecuador, before taking a domestic flight directly to the Islands. How long does it take to travel to the Galápagos Islands? It takes approximately 24 hours to reach the Galápagos Islands from the UK, due to connecting flights and transfers in different airports. For those embarking on a cruise in the Galápagos, it’s recommended you fly out at least two days prior to your embarkation to allow enough time for arrival and account for potential delays. You may want to break up the journey by landing in Ecuador and spend a few days adjusting before taking the final flight to Islands themselves. Where can I book an expedition cruise to the Galápagos Islands? Our Expedition cruise on board Seabourn Venture

Our Expedition cruise on board Seabourn Venture

Our Expedition on board Seabourn Venture Embark upon the adventure of a lifetime with Seabourn Venture! Designed for those curious to explore further and discover the intricate beauty of remote destinations, Seabourn expeditions are truly exceptional voyages that will create memories of a lifetime, one I was fortunate enough to experience. Discover all Seabourn Venture sailings Whether you're an adventure-seeker, wildlife enthusiast, or simply curious about life on an expedition ship, here’s a glimpse into what awaits you... Steph's expedition cruise with Seabourn I recently had the chance to experience one of our expedition cruises first-hand aboard Seabourn Venture in a Veranda Suite around the Shetlands and Orkneys. One of the main things that drew me to an expedition cruise was the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors in harder to reach places and see incredible wildlife in their natural habitats and this certainly didn't disappoint. I started my journey in Lerwick in Shetland, where I enjoyed a coastal walk and an excursion to Jarlshof, an extraordinary archaeological site in Sumburgh. This prehistoric and Norse settlement offered a fascinating glimpse into thousands of years of human history, with remnants of Bronze Age, Iron Age, Viking, and medieval buildings all in one location. The guide brought the site to life with stories and historical context, making it a truly enriching experience. Our next port of call was Fair Isle, and it quickly became one of the highlights of the trip, marked by my first experience disembarking via zodiac. We began with a scenic hike up to a lighthouse, taking in sweeping views of the rugged coastline while accompanied by the calls of noisy oystercatchers. From there, we made our way to a spot known for puffin sightings and were lucky enough to observe these charming birds up close as they landed, interacted with one another, and caught fish. Before returning to the ship, I took a peaceful walk along a small beach with crystal-clear waters. On our zodiac ride back, we made a brief detour through a sea cave, where we were delighted to spot a playful seal swimming nearby - an unforgettable end to an incredible visit. Explore Expedition Voyages While in port at Kirkwall, I had the chance to explore some of Orkney’s most fascinating cultural and historical landmarks. We began with a visit to St Magnus Cathedral, a striking example of Romanesque architecture. Following that, we took a shore excursion to the Ring of Brodgar, part of Orkney’s UNESCO World Heritage Site. This Neolithic stone circle is set in a dramatic landscape of lochs and rolling hills and our guide painted a vivid picture of the ancient rituals that may have taken place there. We concluded the tour in the charming fishing village of Stromness, where we enjoyed the highly recommended local ice cream. At Copinsay Island, we embarked on a zodiac cruise that offered an incredible opportunity to observe the island's rich birdlife and thriving grey seal population up close. The cliffs and shoreline were alive with seabirds, including puffins, guillemots, kittiwakes, shags, and fulmars, while the seals basked on the rocks or bobbed curiously in the water nearby. As if that wasn’t memorable enough, I also had the chance to take part in a submersible dive—an unforgettable experience that took us 30 meters beneath the surface. From the comfort of the sub, we watched jellyfish drift silently by, surrounded by the peaceful, otherworldly atmosphere of the deep. This was a bucket-list moment and a true highlight of the expedition cruise. On board Seabourn Venture   I would highly recommend Seabourn Venture to anyone looking to embark on an expedition cruise. The best luxury cruise lines for Alaska

The best luxury cruise lines for Alaska

The best luxury cruise lines for Alaska A luxury cruise on a six star ship deserves an incredible destination, and few can rival the natural magnificence and historic wonders of Alaska. This fascinating region is home to breath-taking landscapes dominated by glaciers, a wealth of exciting wildlife species and a rich history spanning Native American heritage and the era of the gold rush. But which luxury cruise ship is the best for you to enjoy such a delightful location? There is no simple answer as each ship is different and tailored to a different kind of passenger. Here we’ll help you understand the options available for a luxury Alaska cruise, so that you can narrow down your choice. Still struggling? Speak to our expert Cruise Concierge on 0808 239 7631. They hold a range of personal experience on some of the world’s most luxurious cruise lines and can recommend the best one to suit you. Which luxury cruise lines sail to Alaska? Alaska is a destination best served by smaller ships, which means a lot of larger mainstream cruise lines offer few sailings in the region. However when it comes to luxury cruise lines, Alaska is the perfect destination, and so every one offers some form of Alaskan cruise. Some of these are dedicated sailings lasting seven- to ten-nights, while some are part of larger itineraries spanning more of the U.S. west coast or sometimes across to the Far East. You’re certainly not short of options when it comes to finding the ideal luxury Alaska cruise for you. Alaska is also a fantastic destination to consider our cruise and stay packages, which we can offer with any cruise line. Extend your voyage with a land tour, incorporating more time in port or even a trip on the famous Rocky Mountaineer train which carves its way through some of the world’s finest scenery. How to choose a cruise line for a luxury Alaska cruise? So how do you go about choosing the cruise line that’s best for you? For that you need to understand what to look for in an Alaska cruise, so that you pick the ship with the facilities which are most suited to your holiday. On an Alaskan cruise, you’ll want to make the most of the awe-inspiring scenery as you sail. This means ensuring you’ve a balcony stateroom or suite. With many luxury cruise lines this will be standard but not for every one, so if you’re booking a ship that has oceanview staterooms, ensure you upgrade to make the most of the views and the crisp air from the comfort of your own balcony. One thing that is sure to happen is that, after a day spent exploring the amazing ports of Alaska, you’re going to need somewhere where you can relax and unwind. And that can vary between different travellers. It may be that you prefer sharing stories with fellow passengers over cocktails in one of the many bars on board.  Perhaps you’re more interested in a massage or specialist treatment in the on-board spa? Or maybe your idea of a relaxing evening is one spent in the theatre, taking in a thrilling live performance? However you best choose to relax, your luxury cruise ship can help you recharge ready for another day of adventure. Also consider the fascinating history to discover in this wonderful part of the world. Some luxury cruise ships offer exceptional, detailed lecture programmes to help you fully understand each port you visit so that your shore excursions are more informed and you can delve deeper into the rich heritage of this region. Finally you’ll want to think about the standard of service on board your ship. While all luxury cruise ships are home to attentive, caring crew, ultra-luxury ships take this to another level. Think about choosing an ultra-luxury cruise line that offers private butler service, so that you can have your shore excursions, spa treatments and dining reservations booked for you, leaving you to focus on soaking in the marvellous scenery and atmosphere of your destination. Our most popular luxury cruise lines for Alaska While every cruise line is different and offers advantages for certain passenger types, there are some lines that are more popular for cruises in Alaska amongst our customers. The first of these is Crystal Cruises. A classic luxury cruise line, its ships are elegant and chic, feeling exclusive and yet welcoming at the same time. With outstanding spa facilities, sumptuous dining and a vintage wine collection to choose from, you can be truly pampered as you sail through the majestic Alaskan landscapes. Crystal’s Alaska itineraries vary between seven- and 11-nights. Silversea Cruises is another of our more popular cruise lines for our customers when choosing a cruise to Alaska. Another of the finest cruise lines you can choose from, it offers smaller ships designed to get your closer to your destination, and ensure a more intimate atmosphere on board where every guest becomes a friend to share tales of your adventures with. Every suite enjoys butler service too, ensuring total comfort as you travel. Silversea’s Alaska itineraries vary greatly, giving you plenty of choice, sometimes incorporating some of the state’s less-visited destinations, along with fascinating eastern Russia. Finally, Azamara Club Cruises offer more of a premium luxury experience on-board modern ships. They may not quite have the decadence of the ultra-luxury cruise lines, but they offer fantastic experiences with a relaxed atmosphere. What also makes Azamara unique is their Destination Immersion concept, where you’ll enjoy extended days in port and more unique shore excursions off the beaten track – perfect for exploring the wonders of Alaska. Our experience on board Azamara Quest

Our experience on board Azamara Quest

Our experience on board Azamara Quest What is it like to sail on board Azamara Quest? Discover life on board this incredible ship first-hand from our luxury cruise expert Shirley, who sailed on a stunning itinerary from Nice to Rome. Shirley's experience on board Azamara Quest   I've recently returned from an incredible trip aboard Azamara Cruises' stunning ship, Azamara Quest, and wanted to give you an insight into what she has to offer, as well as share some of my highlights from my Mediterranean sailing. I hadn't sailed with Azamara prior to this trip and it's safe to say this sailing exceeded every expectation I had! Discover all Azamara Quest sailings   Cruising with Azamara   Offering a deluxe experience, Azamara is the perfect choice if you're looking for ultimate indulgence as you explore locations across the globe. During your time on board, you’ll experience fine cuisine and destination delights with plenty of overnight stays in off-the-beaten-path ports of call. Plus, with a guest capacity of just 800, you can expect to visit ports that larger ships can't reach and enjoy attentive service like no other. On Board Azamara Quest   Stepping aboard Azamara Quest, my colleague Elizabeth and I were met by warm, welcoming staff and clean, tasteful décor adorned with plenty of artwork and sculptures. We stayed in an Ocean View Stateroom, which was very well laid out with plenty of wardrobe space, a fabulous vanity area and a mini fridge. Outside of our stateroom, the onboard ambience was very relaxed and friendly. There were always plenty of sun loungers available around the pool and multiple areas to unwind with a cocktail or a coffee. There is a fantastic variety of dining venues to suit the different times of day. On arrival, we enjoyed a lighter lunch with panoramic views of Nice's picturesque port at Windows Café and on two of the evenings, we dined at Discoveries Restaurant, which offered a diverse selection of dishes each day from escargot to lobster to pad thai. My dining highlight has to be Aqualina, a stunning Italian restaurant with outstanding service. The Dover sole is a must-try; it was brought to the table whole, and we watched as the waiter skilfully removed the bones and skin before serving it all with a few sumptuous sides, all ready to eat. Destination Discovery   One thing that stands out about Azamara is that their ships are smaller than many other cruise lines, which allows you to dock in hidden gems and get closer to your destination. In Nice, we were docked within walking distance from all the shops, the beach, restaurants and bars, where we stopped to experience the local cuisine and beverages while looking out at the ocean and the palm tree promenade. We also visited Corsica's beautiful port, which is so colourful and scenic, with something new to admire at every turn. It was here that we went on an excursion up to the mountains to taste some food and wine, which was excellent! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave us some insightful information about Corsica. There is a fascinating contrast between snow-covered mountains and sun-soaked coastline, so you can go skiing, then drive an hour and a half in the other direction and find yourself at the beach! Overall, we had the most fabulous time and wouldn't hesitate to sail with Azamara in the future. If you have any questions about sailing with Azamara Cruises or would like to know more about what offers are available, please don't hesitate to get in touch. We provide personalised service, alongside our first-hand experiences and offers you won't find elsewhere. Simply call our Cruise Concierge today on 0808 163 9421. Six unmissable things to do on a Galapagos expedition cruise

Six unmissable things to do on a Galapagos expedition cruise

The Galapagos national park is a wonder of the natural world. Floating far out in the Pacific Ocean, largely isolated from civilisation, the landscape, plants and animals here are truly unique. It is safe to say the Galapagos is a bucket list destination, with countless things to see and do. So much so, in fact, that we now offer luxury and luxury expedition cruises to the spectacular shores of the Galapagos islands. Travelling to remote regions, immersing yourself in unique cultures and encountering wildlife up close and personal is the true essence behind a luxury expedition cruise. If you aren’t sure where to start when planning your Galapagos sailing, take a look at our six unmissable things to do on a Galapagos luxury expedition cruise. 1. Go in search of wildlife Of course, Galapagos tours wouldn’t be complete without a serious spot of wildlife watching. The skies are alive with seabirds, Darwin’s finches flit between the trees and marine iguanas bask on the rocks. And if that wasn’t all, you could also spot: Giant tortoises Fur seals Galapagos penguins Galapagos sea lions Whale sharks Humpback whales Racer snakes All Galapagos animals are uniquely evolved to thrive in their island habitat, and this isn’t even an exhaustive list. Such biodiversity has to be seen to be believed. 2. Snorkel among pristine habitat Some of the most spectacular Galapagos wildlife lives beneath the waves. A beautiful mish-mash of coral reefs, mangroves and rocky shores play host to some of the islands’ most impressive natural wonders. Huge whale sharks drift serenely through the water as they feed on plankton, countless fish species jostle for position among the coral, and marine iguanas dive for algae. It makes for breath-taking snorkelling: the crystal clear sea like a window into another world. 3. Hike a volcano One of the joys of a Galapagos cruise is the number of trips available once you glide into port. This is sightseeing with a difference – from the top of a volcanic cone! The volcano lies on Caleta Tagus, accessible at the end of a hike through trees bursting with the songs of Darwin’s finches. The view from the top will take your breath away – an awe-inspiring panoramic view over shimmering Darwin Lake and Tagus Cove. 4. Walk on lava flows Punta Espinoza is an otherworldly Galapagos island. The landscape is positively lunar: dominated by volcanoes, lava flows and rocks that seem to move and shift. But it isn’t the rocks: it is the thousands of marine iguanas stretched out on their surface to soak up the heat. The volcanic activity on Punta Espinoza is relatively young, with the last eruption taking place in 2009. Take a walk on the resulting lava flow: the remains of nature’s fury. 5. Visit the Charles Darwin Research Station Charles Darwin is synonymous with the Galapagos national park. After all, his visit here inspired his theory of evolution by natural selection. In turn, Darwin inspired the Charles Darwin Research Station, a centre working to conserve the Galapagos islands and their natural wonders. One of the Station’s main responsibilities is the repopulation of some of the area’s most vulnerable species. From giant tortoises to land iguanas, visitors receive a fascinating insight into Galapagos conservation. 6. Relax on-board your ship Of course, you don’t always have to leave the ship to enjoy Galapagos activities. In an area so blessed by sunshine, it would be rude not to spend some time on-deck, soaking up the sun or taking a dip in the pool. With the majority of passengers disembarking the Silver Galapagos to explore, it is a great opportunity to take advantage of quieter facilities: particularly if you are partial to a spa treatment. Have you always dreamed of visiting the Galapagos? Would you like to find out more about what you can expect from your island trip? Call us on 0207 980 2848, and your personal Cruise Concierge will walk you through your expedition cruise booking from start to finish.

If you enjoy being immersed by the power of nature’s colour and beauty, a trip to the Lavender and Sunflower fields are not to be missed. Surrounded by the beautiful aromas of lavender, accompanied by the perfect backdrop to satisfy your picture-taking needs, it is the perfect excursion to experience nature’s creations.  Alternatively, for fine dining fanatics, take a trip to the quaint market town Aups, Provence and visit Maison De La Truffe, the truffle museum. Be part of a guided tour alongside a specialist, whilst an immersive tasting session is also available, where you will discover the perfect truffle for starter, main and dessert.  3. Create your own perfume – Nice, France  If you are seeking a personalised excursion a stop off at the Molinard perfume boutique in Nice is the perfect experimental experience to create your own unique scent. Hotel Grande Bretagne – Athens, Greece  If Athens is a port on your itinerary, we recommend visiting Hotel Grande Bretagne a breath-taking luxury hotel with stunning views over the Acropolis valley, original Olympic Stadium and the surrounding precious, history-rich city.   Cruise Concierge Top Tip: 🔎 Dine on the GB Roof Graden Restaurant/ Patio for incredible views of the Acropolis, where former Prime Minister of the UK, Winston Churchill, would sit and relax.   If seeking something simpler the lanes throughout Athens city are worthy of a visit to experience their authentic, cobbled streets and historical features, bringing this ancient city to life.  5. Take a boat trip to Monemvasia – Monemvasia ,Greece  If your itinerary allows it, we recommend taking a short boat trip out to Monemvasia, Greece if you seek a secluded location, walking along unspoilt streets through a quaint medieval city. Take a walk around or up to the castle where you will be mesmerised by gorgeous sea views.   Cruise Concierge Top Tip: 🔎 Monemvasia has a small selection of dining locations available, including roof-top restaurants, offering mesmerising views. Some may say this portrays a Shirley Valentine story ambiance, for those familiar with the romantic comedy-drama film from 1989.   6. Local wine tasting – Santorini, Greece  Known for its stunning sea views and iconic, white-washed buildings, Santorini is a port of call for many of our Mediterranean cruises. During the 16th century the island was ruined by a volcanic eruption, and since then has recovered and blossomed into the stunning destination we visit today. A local wine-tasting experience is a recommended excursion when visiting this port due to Santorini’s grape vines growing within the islands volcanic soil and is said to give the wine a unique volcanic flavour!   7. Explore local farms tasting fresh olive oil – Crete, Greece  If your itinerary allows it visit Greece’s largest island, Crete. Its diverse environment and cultural monuments scattered over the island make it the perfect port to visit within your cruise itinerary. A hidden gem excursion involves exploring one of Crete’s local farms to taste fresh oil, crushed from the fresh olives grown within the orchards and ripened by the beautiful Cretan sun.  8. Experience monasteries in the sky – Meteora, Greece  Cruise Concierge Top Tip: 🔎 Meteora is a special location our concierge insisted must be mentioned when visiting central Greece! The stunning natural beauty of huge cliffs and rock pillars alongside the peaceful, spiritual monasteries are a sight to behold, purposely hidden amongst their surroundings to enforce serenity. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is of extreme importance to Greece and has been known as a holy place since 1995. This unique hidden gem from above is worth the visit.   9. Dive into Alexandria’s Classical Past – Egypt   For those of you who are interested in history beneath the water’s surface, taking a dive in Alexandria’s waters to witness the historic ancient Egyptian artifacts, statues and buildings is a must-do excursion. The sunken City of Cleopatra incorporates the entertainment of diving with an educational journey through sunken historic treasures that have many stories to tell. This excursion offers dives for both beginner and expert levels of diving, making it perfect whatever your abilities.  10. Experience a Solar Eclipse – At Sea  Another stunning display by nature to experience is an extremely rare solar eclipse which can be viewed on-board when at sea on a number of sailings, date dependant. A bucket list experience for many, this natural occurring excursion is one to look out for, whilst being positioned in the best viewing spot for maximum effect. The average cruisers will not experience something as spectacular as this, therefore it is definitely a hidden gem excursion!   This concludes our ten hidden gems of the Mediterranean, however, there are many more hidden gems waiting to be discovered and visited during any of our Mediterranean cruises.   Contact our dedicated Cruise Concierge to book your perfect Mediterranean Cruise.

Port in focus: Miami

Port in focus: Miami

Port in focus: Miami Miami is Florida’s party capital. An energetic metropolis full of sassy style and electrifying energy that crackles through its neighbourhoods to a pulsating Latin beat. The city’s spectacular oceanfront location – with modern high rise hotels that line the dazzling white sands of Miami Beach – adds to its allure, along with a sun-drenched climate that injects a tropical feel to its heady mix of night-time temptations. After all, evenings are when this city comes alive to the salsa swaying rhythms of its dance clubs, rooftop bars with far-reaching views, and swanky selection of swish restaurants and hip intimate lounges. Miami’s Latino spirit merges with its classical roots in the hip enclave of South Beach where the bronzed and the beautiful come out to play. This is where uber-cool types cruise the main drag in high-profile Ferraris and Maseratis that scream excess and extravagance, though the real stars of South Beach are the famous Art Deco hotels lined up like grand old ladies along the main Ocean Drive, oozing old world glamour. These streets rose to worldwide fame thanks to Miami Vice as the opening shots were filmed at the Carlyle Hotel, though the stately pile that attracts most interest is the Versace Mansion, where celebrity designer Gianni Versace was shot in 2007. Miami’s downtown and business district is also waking up as more of a cultural hub thanks to the new Perez Art Museum Miami, along with a clutch of restaurants, bars and sporting venues breathing new life into the area. The art theme continues at the Wynwood Arts District where more than 70 galleries, museums and art collections underpin the city’s diverse appeal. Though with this being America, the shops are never far away - form high-end boutiques to massive mind-blowing malls - adding yet another facet to Miami’s mesmeric appeal. Top tip For a real flavour of the city, take a culinary walking tour of South Beach which not only highlights the area’s rich architectural heritage, but the varied spicy flavours of its South American cuisine.

Experience Rocky Mountaineer: A review of this iconic rail journey

Experience Rocky Mountaineer: A review of this iconic rail journey

Experience Rocky Mountaineer: A review of this iconic rail journey SixStarCruises' Managing Director, Alison Earnshaw, recently returned from an Alaska cruise and rail package with Celebrity Cruises. Read more to find out more about her trip below... I have recently returned from a long-awaited cruise in Alaska, this has been on my bucket list for some time as the trip had originally been planned for summer 2020. But better late than never and we travelled this June, cruising on board Celebrity Eclipse. There were many highlights of this trip including our stay in Vancouver, a trip to get up close and personal to the Hubbard Glacier and whale watching in Juneau. But I would like to take this opportunity to share with you some highlights of my journey on board Rocky Mountaineer, with some of my most special moments and top tips. We boarded the train in Vancouver travelling to Banff on their “Passage to the West” itinerary. This was a two-day journey, taking us through the Fraser Valley and on to Kamloops on the first day, and then on through the Sushswap region on the second day, past Castle Mountain to our final station in Banff. What is the GoldLeaf service like on Rocky Mountaineer? Before we travelled everyone told me that GoldLeaf is the only way to experience the Rocky Mountaineer and they were right! Rocky Mountaineer promises that their GoldLeaf service offers passengers “Five-star comfort meets five-star views” and they certainly delivered. We were treated to panoramic views whilst sitting comfortably within the full glass dome windows ensuring no obstructions to the expansive views. The scenery was breathtaking and my pictures do not do it justice. The true scale of the landscape and majesty of the surroundings is difficult to capture on camera but the memories will stay with me forever. Along with choosing from a seasonal menu inspired by the local area, we were served by an excellent team of hosts that shared their knowledge of landmarks and wildlife to ensure that we didn’t miss a thing. Having now returned I can look back on my two days on board Rocky Mountaineer and reflect on what was a fabulous and unique experience that I would recommend to anyone without hesitation. It surpassed all my expectations and truly was a highlight of my trip of a lifetime. What are you waiting for…Why not start planning your dream holiday and take a closer look at our Alaska rail and cruise holidays. I promise you will not be disappointed!
